There Was Never A Need...

The decision by the City Council to retain City Care should be greeted by all rate payers in Christchurch with relief.

That said, it should never have been on the list to sell in the first place. Sadly, we have a few Councillors who seem wedded to an outmoded and demonstrably wrong model of governmental agencies. It's good to see that the Council has backed away from that flawed notion. What is it, and why is it so dangerous to the future of our city?

A Sustainable Future

In 2015 a group of Councillors proposed a ten year draft plan for Christchurch that saw us selling most of our assets in order to rush through the anchor projects for our city: our share in the costs of the Convention Centre; a new sports stadium to replace AMI stadium, to name just two.

The People's Choice team opposed that plan. It sold off our core revenue-generating assets, leaving future generations of rate payers to carry the burden of on-going costs to improve our infrastructure - roading, transport and the like.

We had a different vision: one of a sustainable future.
